Yasou from Tinos, the island of the Virgin Mary!

I arrived on Tinos expecting a quiet Cycladic island, but almost immediately noticed people crawling uphill on their hands and knees. I had to find out why! A carpeted path leads from the harbor through Chora to Panagia Evangelistria, one of Greece's most important Orthodox pilgrimage churches. I'd never witnessed anything quite like it, and their show of faith is extraordinary.

I spent my time wandering Chora's marble-lined streets, exploring little shops and watching the fishing boats in the harbor. But without a rental car, I was missing the traditional villages and marble craftsmanship Tinos is famous for. I left earlier than planned, realizing I'd barely discovered the island beyond its harbor. Next time, I'm renting a car!

Sending love from somewhere worth getting lost,
