Kalispera from Syros!

I kept hearing that Syros was unlike the other Greek islands in the Cyclades, but nothing prepared me for Ermoupoli! Cosmopolitan, elegant, and sparkling clean. Pastel neoclassical buildings surrounded the grand harbor, and even the streets and sidewalks were marble! Absolutely gorgeous, but slippery. I learned that the hard way!

But what stayed with me most were the people. Everyone was genuinely happy I was there. One man I met even sent me away with local halvadopita and chocolates as gifts.

Syros was beautiful, sophisticated and surprisingly warm. Sometimes you know almost immediately when an island has found its way onto your list of places you’ll return to.
